A Sustainable Model For Open Content Courseware

Brian Jacobs

While the open educational movement has rightly been focused on cost and access as points of orientation, there has been no clear and effective model to support ongoing open content production, to recognize faculty for their time in working with open content, or to fund technologies that can improve learning outcomes. This talk will discuss our work with US-based colleges and universities to address these needs, specifically addressing the three core areas of the project: curation and library localization, learning tools and data, and financial incentives. Such an approach, this talk will demonstrate, can promote faculty participation, increase the use of helpful learning technologies, and support open content development and maintenance.
