Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching at the University of Cape Town, South Africa invites you to attend a workshop on Introduction to Open Education.

The primary goal of this half-day interactive workshop is to introduce participants to principles, tools and techniques that will allow them to get started with open education at their institutions or organizations or to incorporate Open Education within their daily practices.

Who should attend?

Participants with little or no prior experience in Open Education:

  • Practitioners (teachers & faculty members) and administrators across all education sectors (primary, secondary and HEIs)
  • Representatives from governments and NGOs
  • Researchers and students

The workshop will cover the following themes:

  • History of the Open Education Movement
  • Role of Open Education within the broader Openness ecosystem such as Open Access, Open Data, Open Research, Open Source Software or Open Government and clarification of key concepts
  • How to create Open Educational Resources (OER) – copyright considerations and alternative licensing of teaching and learning materials with Creative Commons licenses
  • Where to find or deposit OER
  • Open Education Practices
