Accumulation of OER (Open Educational Resources) contents all over the world have been becoming huge amount and many translation projects carried out translation from original language, mostly English to other various languages like Chinese, Spanish and others. And since 2012 MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) has been spread out all over the world and OER contents could be delivered as form of MOOC combined with learning support functions like community offering, assessment and certification.
In Japan OCW (OpenCourseWare) activities have been launched in very early stage, since 2005 and accumulation of OER contents in Japan have reached several hundred courses. However in terms of use in real learning settings there might be not so many cases. On the other hand many quality OER distributed from various world famous universities have not used so often in Japan mostly cause of language barrier. So we established NPO named Asuka Academy in 2014, which aims to promote more usage of world quality OER through translation to Japanese and delivery from the e-Learning platform combined with various learning support functions. First target OCW is “A Gentle Introduction to Programming Using Python”, which is one of the most visited course of MIT OCW content. Before starting the translation of this course to Japanese, we made the agreement about translation affiliate with MIT OCW office. First we sought translation volunteers from the Python community and IT related network in Japan. As the second translation target is MIT+K12 contents, which are delivered from MIT for K12 in forms of many short clip videos. From this content one high school joined to the translation project. In this project many high school students made the translation of the MIT+K12 content. So far we have tranlated about 200 quality OER contents. In this presentation, we will report our project in detail about translation and deliver of those OER.
