About the Open Education Consortium
The Open Education Consortium is a global network of educational institutions, individuals and organizations that support an approach to education based on openness, including collaboration, innovation and collective development and use of open educational materials. The Open Education Consortium is a non-profit, social benefit organization registered in the United States and operating worldwide, with a mission to promote, support and advance openness in education around the world. We envision a world where everyone, everywhere has access to the high quality education and training they desire; where education is seen as an essential, shared, and collaborative social good.
About Delft University of Technology
Delft University of Technology, also known as TU Delft, is the largest and oldest Dutch public technological university. With eight faculties and numerous research institutes, it hosts over 23,000 students (undergraduate and postgraduate), more than 3,300 scientists, and more than 2,200 support and management staff.
The university was established on 8 January 1842 by King William II of the Netherlands as a Royal Academy, with the main purpose of training civil servants for the Dutch East Indies. About the Conference Committee
Willem van Valkenburg
Willem is part of the leadership of the TU Delft Extension School. He is responsible for the production & delivery of OpenCourseWare, DelftX MOOCs, online Professional Education and online BSc and MSc programmes.
Willem has been involved with the Open Education Consortium since 2008. First as assistant of former president Anka Mulder and since 2013 as board member of the Consortium.
Willem holds a Master of Science in System Engineering, Policy Analysis & Management of Delft University of Technology.
Robert Schuwer is Professor Open Educational Resources (OER) at Fontys University of Applied Sciences, School of ICT in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. In September 2016 he was appointed Chairholder of the UNESCO Chair on OER at Fontys. Since 2006 the majority of his work is about OER and Open Education. His current research is on adoption of OER and other forms of open online education by the early and late majority of teachers. He is Chairman of the SURF Dutch Special Interest Group Open Education.
