Getting to Milan

Arriving in and moving from or through Milan is quite easy and relatively low time consuming, thanks to its efficient transport system.

The major international airports are Milano Linate and Milano Malpensa.  Milano Orio al Serio is the major inter-Europe airport.

Milano Linate and Milano Orio al Serio are connected to the city by shuttle bus; from there are bus and train connections.

The main train station, Milano Centrale, connects the city with importants destinations in Italy and abroad , while other railway stations such as Milano Porta Garibaldi, Milano Lambrate, Milano Rogoredo e Milano Cadorna FNM mainly provide local connections within Lombardy and the surrounding regions.

Motorways and ring roads ensure both national and international connections by car, but tend to be crowded with traffic during the peak hours.

On the “Muoversi in Lombardia” website  you can plan your journey, check public transport timetables and access helpful information for your journey.  For more information about public transport see the following resources: Trenord, Trenitalia, Map of regional rail service, Map of the suburban rail,  ATM, Map of underground and suburban lines.

Traveling in Milan

The city transport infrastructure consists of four underground lines, several suburban lines, tramways (some very traditional), buses and trolleybuses. The institutional website of the Milan transport company ATM and its official mobile app display all the information and the services, including a useful journey planner.

Taxi service is very efficient but rather expensive.

Car sharing (Uber) and bike sharing services are also available, especially in the surroundings of the city center.
